Details for Picking up Materials 4/7/2020

We will have all materials ready for pickup tomorrow at 9:00am and 3:00pm. You may come at either time, so you can choose which fits best with your schedule. We will be taking every precaution we can to be safe, but that may mean a slower process than a normal pickup. Here is what you can do to help us speed things up.
 
1.  When you arrive, please go all the way down to the far end of the parking lot (near the dumpster) and turn back into the parking lot. We expect a lot of people at one time, and we need to be sure we can keep traffic from backing up onto Highway 31.
It would help greatly if you could print your name in bold print on a sheet of paper and have it in your windshield. Material is separated by family, so knowing which family you are at a quick glance will help tremendously. If you don’t have the ability to do this, that’s ok!
 
2.  Mrs. Earley will be stationed near the lunchroom adding a note with your name to the outside of your windshield. The more families that can be prepared beforehand, though, will help things be quicker.
 
3.  As you come around the front of the building, please pull into 3 separate lines like we do each normal afternoon. Mrs. Wooters will have a stop sign down towards the gym indicating how far for the first cars to pull up.
 
4.  Mrs. Harmon will be calling out family names as you pull through. We will have a crew of workers in masks and gloves ready to bring your material to your car. You will not not have to leave your vehicle.
 
5. Between trips to cars, we will have two teachers working to sanitize the gloves of the ones bringing the material to the cars.
 
6. Our staff will also be picking up the work from the last 3 weeks that students should have completed. Please bag these items and put your child’s name and grade on it. We will be sure it gets to his/her teacher so proper credit can be given.
 
We are looking forward to seeing everyone again, even if it is just through a windshield!

School Update 4/6/2020

Let me begin by thanking you for the overwhelming emails and calls of thanks, encouragement, and support as we have been working through this process from beginning to end.  We could have simply said we were following Jefferson County and closing our doors to everyone, but there is a reason our families don’t attend these public schools.  You expect more, and you deserve more.  If there is a way for us to deliver that, we can and we will.  We could have told all our parents that we were continuing with class for everyone, but that would not have been responsive to the needs of our families.  Again, you deserve more.

School Update 4/4/2020

Our plan to update our families on Friday regarding the remainder of the year was preempted by Kay Ivey’s Shelter-in-Place Order. We have met to discuss the details of that Order and its effects on school. Thankfully, the Governor has recognized educators as part of an essential operation for purposes of distance learning and education continuity plans [Section 2(j)]. This means that our students do not have to end the year short of that goal we had the first day we walked into the school in August.

School Update 4/2/2020

Tabernacle Family,

It has certainly been an unprecedented time that has required us to take some unprecedented actions.  We met with all of our faculty and staff this week to discuss what the end of the year looks like.  Even a simple endeavor like a staff meeting turned into a 3-day event as we scheduled separate meetings with small, spread out groups, with enough time in between meetings to clean surfaces.  It wasn’t our typical staff meeting, but it worked without putting our people at unnecessary risk.

Update on School Closure

Governor Ivey has extended the physical closure of schools for the remainder of the year. All things considered, we believe it is best to do the same.

A Note from the Administrator

As we come to the end of our first week out of school, I am reminded where we started the year with our Faculty and Staff.  In August, as we planned for the arrival of the students, I challenged our Faculty and Staff on the vision of Tabernacle Christian School.  Seeing as how 2020 was just around the corner at the time, it seemed a most appropriate topic.  Fast forward into 2020, and vision seems to be the most elusive thing.

Coronavirus Statement

We have received a few inquiries recently as to our response to the coronavirus. First, we would like to offer our prayers for all those who have been affected by the coronavirus. Please know we are doing everything in our power to maintain safe conditions for all Tabernacle families and staff.

We are constantly monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the local health department for guidance.  We are also tracking updates from the Department of State for any travel advisories that would affect our school, field trips, and athletic events.

Thankfully, we currently have no local outbreak of the coronavirus, so we will continue with school and activities as normal.  We will, however, put into place preventative measure to help us combat a potential outbreak.  We will

  • Provide time for all students to wash their hands multiple times throughout the day.
  • More routine cleaning of specific areas in the classroom, including desktops, doorknobs, tables, etc. and prioritizing areas such as bathrooms and common areas.
  • Advise students to refrain from touching their face, nose, or mouth and to cough or sneeze into their elbow or a tissue.
  • Keep the facilities stocked with soap, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and tissues.

If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, please strictly adhere to our current policies of remaining at home.  If any student experiences any symptoms at school, that individual will be quarantined in an area and monitored until a family member or emergency contact can arrive.  They will be asked to leave the school immediately and contact their health care provider.

In the event that a health care provider quarantines an individual after being at school, we will

  • Notify staff and parents of all students.
  • Cancel all school events until further notice
  • Perform extensive cleaning of the school

Depending on the specific circumstances, we will determine when it is safe to return to school.  Upon returning to school, quarantined individuals must present a health release statement from their health care provider.

If a student is sent home for symptoms of the coronavirus, the absence will be excused.  A student will also be excused while quarantined.  Otherwise, attendance will be as normal each day.

Maintaining a schedule of instruction without a break is important for the learning and growth of students.  We will prepare supplemental instructional materials for students in the event of a prolonged school closure to ensure students are prepared to resume class upon return.

As of now, we will continue school as normal, with attendance taken as normal.  All in-state field trips and athletic events will continue as planned.  The situation will be continued to be monitored carefully and will be updated as needed.
